When I worked for the TP in the 60's, old-timers remembered a head-on at Sandhills, near Monahans, in the late 40's. A student brakeman switched an oncoming freight onto the siding where another train was "in the hole." Both engine crews perished. I've seen pictures. Anyone know anything more about this incident?
