I have an ancestor, John Notestine, who was an engineer for the T & P RR, from Sept 1, 1884 to about 1915. John Notestine & his family lived in Big Spring, Howard Co, Texas. I am looking for any historical or personal information for John, especially anything that the T & P may have available. Frankly, I have no idea where to look in the T & P for information. I have a photo of the pistol that John carried in the cab everyday. His family also says that John kept a "Log" of all of the Firemen that rode with him. How great that would be to find.
John was born in Peoria Co, Illinois, April 3, 1855. His family moved to Warren Co, Iowa & John is said to have Run a Way from home, as he was tired of being a slave on his fathers farm. According to the "Seniority List of Engineers" in 1907, John's seniority date for the T & P is Sept 1, 1884. He was still a member in 1910, at age 55. he may have worked another 5-10 years, before retirement. John died in Big Spring, TX Sept 17, 1931. So, if anyone can help me locate info on Texas John Notestine, please let me know.

I have found census records for John and his family. There is nothing specific to the T&P but they do say he is and engineer.
