Re: T&P 2-10-4 #638

Gruess aus Texas! [I lived and worked for a German company, Siemens, in Munich from 1986-88.] From what I've managed to piece together, T&P 638 was not fenced off soon enough and not supervised properly by the State Fair management after its donation. I don't think anything major was removed exc...

Early Odessa depot

Thanks to the Permian Genealogical Society, we have these early views of the T&P depot in Odessa TX: m Find the link on that page to the photo of the last depot in Odessa: m I think the date of 1962 for the last passenger train is incorrect. I believe it was around 1967 or 1968 that West Texas s...

T&P song sheet

A popular way for railroads to advertise around 1900 was to publish song sheets for catchy tunes. Here's one T&P published called "Texas, Where the Mockin' Bird is Singin'":

Note the endsheet has that typical T&P slogan: "No trouble to answer questions."

State Fair special train of yesteryear

This weekend at the North Texas Book & Paper Show in Grapevine TX, I saw an old advertisement for a special train from Palestine to Dallas. The route was Palestine-Jacksonville-Tyler-Lindale-Mineola-Dallas via the I&GN and T&P. Passengers arrived directly at the fairgrounds. The special ...
