Railroads are often upgraded. Wooden bridges from about 1880 were untreated and would need replacement. Iron bridges needed replacement with steel. New locomotives might not fit through truss structures. Perhaps street underpasseswould be needed.

Prior to WWII the through Pullman via P&SF ran to Amarillo. The service included head end and chair cars. Two sets of through equipment were required and the two railroads provided one each. The Pullmans and chair cars ceased running through in 1950, but a mail storage car continued into the Six...
