My great-grandfather worked for Texas & Pacific prior to Feb. 1897.

I have recently come into possession of several items of interest. One is a letter written to his sweetheart on T&P paper from "G Boro" LA dated Feb 20, 1897. Another is a picture of locomotive 830 but I'm not sure if this was a T&P engine or not. Would love to make a positive ID of the unit and any of the people shown.

John worked on at least one cattle ship between New Orleans and Liverpool as I also have a letter from Liverpool dated 6-15 (no year) stating that they would be "on water for 7 weeks". Did T&P operate in conjunction with any of the cattle boats?

John met and married his sweetheart in December 1897 in Bunkie LA. In 1899 they had moved to Cheyenne WY. The 1900 census lists him as a "brakeman". The 1901 birth of their 2nd son lists John as "conductor - Missouri Pacific".

John and his growing family settled in SE Kansas where he died in 1938. I have a membership card for 1907-1908 to the Railroad YMCA in Coffeyville KS and a 25-year pin.
