Cross Tie Inspector

Post by clord001 »

My grandfather was a cross tie inspector and buyer for T&P in the 30's. He traveled on a handcar or speeder; sometimes with my father tagging along when he was a boy. They lived in DeSoto Parish, LA. The only remembrance I have of this is his business card. Does anyone have or know where I might find pictures of a T&P handcar/speeder from this era or possibly photos of stacks of rail ties? My father is still living and I know he would like to see these.

I don't have information on the cars you are seeking, but my grandfather sold cross ties at the time you reference. He lived in Texarkana and worked independently and later for the Koppers Company. His name was Tommy Trotter. I wonder if your father ever worked with him.

Mr Jones,

Thanks for your reply. I talked with my father. He was a little too young when traveling with his father to remember names, but he said his father did cover the Texarkana area. I would suppose that he did deal with your grandfather on occasion.
