T&P F-1 #407

Fort Worth, TX

Description

No. 407 was a F-1 Class 2-8-0. The earliest date that I have seen recorded for #407 in El Paso is August 24, 1934. However, El Paso friends tell me that #407 was in El Paso before 1930. # 407 was used only as a switch engine for the T&P at the El Paso terminal. There was no T&P local El Paso freight service since the T&P operated on SP trackage from Sierra Blanca to El Paso. In 1948 #407 was replaced by two 0-6-0 switch engines, Class B-8 #468 and Class B-8-a 478.

The El Paso Terminal Trainmaster told me that #468 and #478 had been displaced by diesel switch engines at Ft. Worth. 2-8-0 #407 was sold to the Gifford-Hill & Company in 1948 and was used on that company's Evangeline Railway until retired in 1953.
